After the ring has been deflected by the sort solenoid, it rolls into the chute and is held in place by the index cam, where its presence can be detected.
The
chute can hold up to five rings; however, the larger the
number of rings in the chute, the higher
the chance that operation of the rotary solenoid will deliver more than
one ring into the assembly hopper [s4].
